About Ovine Enzootic Abortion

Ovine enzootic abortion (OEA) is a leading cause of lamb mortality globally and the most common infectious cause of abortion in sheep and goats in the UK (Moredun, 2023). It is caused by the bacteria Chlamydia abortus, which infects the placenta during pregnancy, and can lead to late term abortion or delivery of weak lambs that die shortly after birth. (WOAH, 2023)
